Where do I park?
For check-in and the preliminary rounds, please park in the parking lot behind the Percy L. Julian Math and Science Building (602 S. College St.). Parking is also available just across the street from that lot in the Peeler Building parking lot (10 W Hanna St.). Lunch and the final rounds will be held at The Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics (2961 W. Co Rd. 225 S.). Park in the lot to the immediate right of the entrance gate. Directions from Julian to Prindle will be available the day of the competition.
Are meals provided?
Free breakfast, lunch, snacks, and drinks will be provided throughout the competition.
Can parents or guardians attend?
Yes, and we will have audience seating available in the competition rooms. Please let us know if you will have extra parents or guardians attending the free lunch on the Participant Information Form. There is a limit of two parents/guardians per team member for the lunch.
What resources are available as my team prepares for the competition?
Visit nhseb.unc.edu or contact Leslie Petiniot (lesliepetiniot@depauw.edu) or Emily Knuth (eknuth@depauw.edu) with questions. The Prindle Institute’s director Andy Cullison is available to advise ethics bowl coaches.
What if our school is really far from Greencastle?
If your school is located more than two and a half hours driving distance away from Greencastle and DePauw, the Prindle Institute will provide between 3-4 guestrooms at an area hotel per school. This accommodation will be available for the night before the competition, Friday, January 31, 2020.
How much does it cost to register my team for this competition?
Each school will need to pay $175 to register a school and one team, $75 for each additional team. Schools may register and pay for a maximum of three teams. The $175 includes the amount due to National High School Ethics Bowl (the Prindle Institute will pay UNC). If your school has significant financial challenges, please contact Emily Knuth to discuss payment options.
Please contact Leslie Petiniot (lesliepetiniot@depauw.edu) or Emily Knuth (eknuth@depauw.edu) with any questions.
Opportunities after the competition:
1) The winning team of our regional will compete in a virtual playoff with the winner of the Chicago regional bowl shortly after our competition. The winner of the virtual playoff is eligible to compete in the National High School Ethics Bowl competition at the University of North Carolina April 18-19, 2020. If the Indiana school wins the virtual playoff, the Prindle Institute will award that school a $1,500 stipend to offset travel costs.
2) First- through fourth-place finishers are eligible to compete in the Prindle Institute’s third annual National Summer High School Ethics Bowl Invitational on June 25-27, 2020.
