Richardson Wins APA/OUP Teaching Prize

Our Associate Director, Alex Richardson, has just been named the 2025 winner of the American Philosophical Association’s Oxford University Press Teaching with Technology Prize. This prize recognizes outstanding use of technology in the teaching of philosophy and philosophical pedagogy by philosophers at a junior career stage. Please join us in congratulating Alex on this achievement!

From the selection committee: Alex Richardson’s approach to teaching with technology displays an exemplary breadth of engagement as well as pedagogical depth. From the careful use of technology to engage students in thought experiments designed to build skills in moral reasoning, to an immersive whole-class gameplay experience, Richardson models a critically reflective commitment to the role that technology may play in teaching philosophy. In addition, Richardson’s work demonstrates the great potential that a thoughtful approach to technology may have for engaging in philosophy education with wider public audiences of all ages. Just as many past and present colleagues and students have been inspired by Richardson’s pedagogical approach to technology, this year’s prize committee takes his work to be a model for many of us to learn from.
