The Wartenberg Children's Collection
A Lending Library for Little Thinkers
The Prindle Institute is proud to open the Wartenberg Children’s Collection to the public: more than 200 picture books chosen for the big questions they invite, from fairness and friendship to courage and identity. The collection is named for Thomas Wartenberg, Professor Emeritus at Mount Holyoke College and a founder of the Philosophy for Children movement, who created the Teaching Children Philosophy resource collection in the late 1990s. Since 2019 the Institute has stewarded his library of discussion guides, so most books here are paired with one designed to raise big questions with the smallest thinkers. We've purpose-built this lending library to support philosophy for children and dialogue facilitation in classrooms, libraries and homes, and many titles are available as class sets for teachers and group facilitators.
