Recharge your teaching, reignite your classroom.
Each summer, the Prindle Institute for Ethics welcomes a cohort of passionate high school educators to our campus in the DePauw Nature Park for a three-day retreat devoted to the art of teaching tough topics. Together, we explore how to turn disagreement into dialogue and ethical questions into opportunities for growth. Through interactive sessions, case-based activities, and hands-on collaboration, you’ll gain practical tools from moral philosophy and deliberative pedagogy that you can use across subjects, disciplines, and grade levels—all while connecting with a community of educators who care deeply about helping students think critically about the world around them.
About the Retreat
The Prindle Institute’s High School Educator Retreat is a multi-day professional development experience designed to help teachers integrate ethics and dialogue into everyday classroom practice. Hosted each summer on the Institute’s beautiful campus in the heart of a 500-acre nature park, the retreat brings together a small cohort of high school educators from across the country for immersive, collaborative learning. Participants engage in workshops on case-based pedagogy, frameworks for ethical reasoning, and strategies for facilitating dialogue across difference, while also developing lesson plans tailored to their own classrooms. The retreat balances structured sessions with time for reflection and rest—offering opportunities for informal conversation, nature walks, and community-building around the campfire. Guided by Prindle Institute faculty and staff, the retreat is designed to be both intellectually energizing and personally restorative.
Application Process
Each summer, a cohort of 15–20 educators is selected to participate in the Prindle Institute’s High School Educator Retreat through a competitive application process. Accepted participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Greencastle, Indiana, while lodging and meals are provided at no cost. Professional development credits (15 IN PGPs or comparable) are available for all participants.
This was the best planned and most helpful retreat I’ve ever attended. I’ve walked away between every session more energized and excited to use these tools than I ever expected.
