The Prindle Institute is recruiting community volunteers ahead of the Fall arrival of Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, a Smithsonian traveling exhibition opening October 10 and running through November 20. Developed by the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program in partnership with Indiana Humanities, Voices and Votes explores nearly 250 years of the nation’s ongoing experiment in self-government. Through historical artifacts, multimedia installations, and stories of revolution, suffrage, protest, and reform, the exhibition asks how each generation shapes and reshapes democracy.

Volunteers will help welcome visitors, share the stories the exhibition tells, and make the experience meaningful for everyone who walks through the door during its six-week run at the Institute. Shifts are three to four hours and available mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. No special background is needed, just a love of community and an interest in the conversations democracy asks us to have. All volunteers will be required to attend a 90-minute training session before their first scheduled shift. Sessions are scheduled for September 15, September 28, and September 30, with both in-person and online options available.

Voices and Votes is presented in collaboration with the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics, the Putnam County Museum, the Greencastle League of Women Voters, and the Putnam County Public Library.
