UC Lab School Wins, Culver Qualifies as Wild Card at IHSEB 2026

On a snowy January Saturday in Greencastle students from across the state gathered at the Prindle Institute for the 2026 Indiana High School Ethics Bowl (IHSEB), a full day of careful argument, active listening, and collaborative moral reasoning. Over the course of preliminary and elimination rounds, teams engaged a wide range of challenging ethical questions—probing issues of technology, punishment, privacy, education, and responsibility with seriousness, creativity, and respect for disagreement.

We are excited to congratulate our Grand Champions, the University of Chicago Laboratory School, whose thoughtful and disciplined performance carried them through a competitive championship round. We also congratulate runners-up and the recipient of an NHSEB Central Division wild card bid, Culver Academies! Both teams will advance to the National High School Ethics Bowl Central Divisional Playoffs, hosted by the Prindle Institute in mid-February, where they will compete for a place at the 2026 NHSEB National Championship in Chapel Hill, NC.

Beyond the results, the 2026 IHSEB once again highlighted the distinctive value of Ethics Bowl: a format that rewards clarity, intellectual humility, responsiveness to others, and the willingness to wrestle openly with complex moral problems. The Prindle Institute thanks all participating students, coaches, judges, and volunteers for making this year’s event a success, and looks forward to continuing these conversations in the weeks ahead.
