Workshop: The Essentials of Ethics Bowl (Canceled)

We write to invite you to an upcoming Indiana High School Ethics Bowl (IHSEB) workshop at Culver Academies’ Shrage Leadership Center on Saturday, September 7, from 9 AM to 1:30 PM ET. The workshop, “The Essentials of Ethics Bowl” will be delivered by staffers from the Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University (host of the IHSEB event) in collaboration with students and faculty from Culver Academies. Our aim is to provide an interactive introduction to our activity and prepare teachers to start and run successful Ethics Bowl teams at their own schools.
Ethics Bowl is a kind of collaborative competition where students evaluate case studies that present complex moral questions and dilemmas. This enriching activity fosters both critical thinking and key skills for democratic deliberation, and can help students grapple with the inescapable ethical issues that permeate our public and private lives.
This year’s workshop will feature discussions of the fundamentals of the Ethics Bowl activity and its educational benefits, an interactive demonstration of an ethics bowl match, a how-to on seting up and managing a team, strategy sessions for preparing students for competition, and more.
