War and the Environment: 39th Annual Conference of the Concerned Philosophers for Peace
Join Concerned Philosophers for Peace at the Prindle Institute for Ethics on October 16 and 17, 2026, for the organization’s 39th annual conference, War and the Environment. Keynote speaker Mark Woods, chair and professor of philosophy at the University of San Diego and author of Rethinking Wilderness, will deliver “Green Just War Theory? No: Ecologically Liable Contingent Pacifism and Sustainable Peace.” Sessions will examine how war and preparation for war shape the environment, and what that means for building a lasting and just peace, alongside broader work on peace and nonviolence.
Abstracts of up to 500 words are due July 15, 2026, and are welcome from undergraduates, graduate students, academics, independent scholars, and practitioners across philosophy, law, public policy, history, religious studies, political science, and related fields.
