It’s Ethics Bowl Season.
It is once again Ethics Bowl season at the Prindle Institute. Registration is now open, and Regional Case Sets available, for both the National High School Ethics Bowl and the APPE Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl. This year, the Prindle Institute will host the Indiana High School Ethics Bowl, the NHSEB Central Divisional Ethics Bowl Playoffs, and the APPE Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl (IEB) Online Regional Competition.
Indiana High School Ethics Bowl (IHSEB)
The Indiana High School Ethics Bowl (IHSEB) is an affiliated Regional Competition with the National High School Ethics Bowl program. The 2026 IHSEB will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the Prindle Institute for Ethics on the campus of DePauw University in Greencastle, IN. All teams will participate in three preliminary rounds in the morning, with winning teams moving onto elimination rounds in the afternoon. The winner of the IHSEB will advance to NHSEB’s Central Divisional Playoffs (also hosted by the Prindle Institute) to compete for a seat at the NHSEB National Championship in April 2026 at the University of North Carolina’s Parr Center for Ethics.
Registration for the Indiana High School Ethics Bowl is now open. Schools may register one team between now and November 1. After that point, registration will open to second teams as space allows, with invitations going out in initial registration order. The 2025-2026 IHSEB registration fee is $250 for the first team registered, and an additional $75 for each additional participating team from a school. This fee is inclusive of the $175 NHSEB Registration fee, and that fee will be directed to NHSEB HQ upon registration with the Prindle Institute for IHSEB 2026. All registrations must be completed by December 1, 2025.
The Prindle Institute is offering startup grants of up to $250 to help launch and coach new teams in the 2025–2026 school year. Our staff can also provide coaching support, from recruiting students to preparing for competition. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with funding awarded first-come, first-served.
IEB Online Regional Competition
The Prindle Institute for Ethics is the new institutional home of the APPE Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl Online Regional Competition. First established in 2021, IEB Online is designed to provide a premiere Ethics Bowl experience for students and teams who prefer an online experience, or who are unable to travel for participation in more traditional APPE IEB Regional Competitions.
The 2025 IEB Online Regional Competition is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, and will be conducted online in a series of video conference “rooms” via Zoom. Unless otherwise noted, the IEB Online Regional Competition will follow the same rules and procedures as the APPE IEB National Championship.
Competition will feature three preliminary rounds featuring all 18 participating teams in random matchups, a semi-final elimination round with four teams advancing, and a championship match between the final two remaining teams. Discussions will focus on the full APPE IEB Regional Case Set. A number of bids to participate in the APPE IEB National Championship will be extended to teams based on final competitive placement, and the number of available bids will be announced in advance of the event.
