Hillman Panel: The Ethics of Human Subjects Research

February 5 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm at The Percy L. Julian Science and Mathematics Center 602 S College Ave
Greencastle, IN 46135 United States

What ethical responsibilities do researchers have to the people who make their work possible? This panel brings together faculty from history, women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, and anthropology to examine the moral foundations of human subjects research—from questions of consent and power to institutional oversight and accountability. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives and practical experience with the IRB process, the conversation will explore how ethical research is shaped not just by rules, but by relationships, histories, and lived realities.

Panelists:
• Martha Espinoza, Assistant Professor of History
• Jennifer Mike, Assistant Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
• Clark Sage, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Director of the Institutional Review Board
