Student Events at the Prindle Institute
An important note about requests to hold events at the Prindle Institute
Out of an abundance of caution, DePauw University has cancelled all events beginning Sunday, March 8 through at least Spring Break because of concerns about coronavirus. This means all Prindle Institute events during the month of March have been cancelled. We are temporarily closing our building use registration form, as we are not allowed to host any events at the Prindle Institute for at least the month of March. We will be closely monitoring this situation, and will open the form when we’ve received notification from DePauw administration that we can host events in our building again. Please contact our Operations Manager Linda Clute (email@example.com) with any questions you might have.
Here are the parts of the official message from DePauw University concerning the cancellations that affect our events:
…events with guest lecturers or visitors are canceled beginning March 8, 2020 at least through Spring Break…the cancelation includes all events that involve guest presenters or visitors regardless of their expected scale.
While there is no perfect definition, in our context, closed meetings that are attended by a single guest are not classified as events. When an activity includes multiple visitors or is open to a broader audience it is considered to be an event. For example, while it is permissible to invite an outside speaker to attend a department meeting (closed meeting) or to conduct training for a small group of invited participants (closed meeting), or to visit a specific class (closed meeting) or to service a piece of equipment (not an event) it is not permissible to invite an outside speaker to present a seminar that is open to a broader audience.
